Tamoi Taylor was a 4th grade student at St. Catherine-St. Lucy Catholic School located in Oak Park, Illinois. On December 16, 1983, there was an early dismissal at the school and Tamoi decided to walk home by herself using a route that she and her mother had discussed several times. Tamoi was last observed walking eastbound on Corcoran Place from Austin Avenue. A short time later, a schoolmate called the Taylor home to make sure that Tamoi arrived safely. Tamoi's mother, who was unaware of the early dismissal, retraced the previously agreed upon route and could not locate Tamoi. The police were notified and a search was begun. Later that day, police were summoned to the area of 2030 West Kinzie where a body of a young female was discovered on the side of the road. It was determined that the young victim was Tamoi Taylor.
