Ely --- The trial for Harrell Johnson was originally scheduled for either July or August of 2006. Then it was postponed. His wife (Erica's mother) was scheduled for January of 2007. I found zilch on that in January, so it was probably postponed. Then H. Johnson was scheduled for a July 2007 trial date. It was postponed as he "fired" his lawyers. It later was rescheduled for February, 2008.

I had thought of perhaps attending the trial if it was held in July, BUT I have been a juror on a murder trial before, and believe me, they are no fun ...

The trial was a local case about 9 years ago. As it turned out, it was a justifiable homicide, as the ex-boyfriend went to the the defendant's house at about 2 in the morning, made some threatening moves toward her (he had beat her up earlier), and she stabbed him. He left, and she called the sheriff's office. When they learned he had left, even though she told them she had stabbed him, they did not come until the next morning (this was very bad police work, IMO). They found him dead in a car about 2 driveways away, where he had parked originally. This was in a small suburb about 10 miles from the sheriff's office.
All 12 jurors voted the same ... for acquittal. The judge met with us afterward and told us that we had made the right decision. Still, one still has nagging doubts about whether you made the right decision. The defense paints one picture, the proseucution (spelling?) paints another.

Erica Green was born to a prisoner in Muskogee, OK. Mrs. Betty Brown of Muskogee took the baby since no inmates can raise babies, and lovingly reared her for almost 4 years (3 yr. 10 mo). Michelle Johnson, the mother picked Erica up about 1 month before her death and took her to Kansas City where Erica's final destiny was sealed. Then it was one lie after another by Michelle Johnson to Mrs. Brown about Erica's location. She was always "with neighbors, or friends, or relatives ___ " ... every excuse in the world. That is why no investigation was ever launched.

.... Erica Michelle Marie Green was born to prisoner Michelle Johnson on May 15, 1997.in Oklahoma. Her father was Larry Green who was ( and may still be) incarcerated in Oklahoma. Thus the name Erica Green.---

.... Mrs. Betty Brown ran a child care center (I think) in Muskogee, OK. She offered to raise Erica, and did so during Ericas early years. Some of Mrs. Browns relatives that I contacted said that Erica was one of the sweetest little girls they had ever known.

.... Harrell Johnson became the boyfriend of Michelle after she was released. There was all kinds of problems with warrants charging small crimes against them. On a fateful day in late March or early April of 2001, Michelle asked to take Erica to Kansas City (to a reunion). Mrs. Brown complied as she had no legal claim to Erica.. They then left for KC.

... On or about April 25,2001, Harrell was high on PCP, and became angry at Erica when he ordered her to go to bed at 4101 E. 59th St.. She cried, and he kicked her to the floor. She was unresponsive. They both had warrants out for their arrests, so they let Erica lie there for 2 days. (Read the statement of probable cause). When it was apparent Erica was dead, they waited till about midnight, and undressed Erica and removed her through a back window. They carried her about 1 block to E. 59th and Kensington, and Harrell took her into a wooded area north of a church there. He took hedge clippers and cut off Ericas head. When Michelle caught up with him, they abandoned the body, and carried the head to a dumpster at the church. Michelle objected (some say that she was afraid the smell might make a quick discovery). So they put the head in a plastic bay, and Harrell threw it in the undergrowth some distance from the body. (I hate to put this in here, but it shows how callous killers can be).

... Meanwhile, David Bernard and KC investigated over 1000 leads and performed 17 DNA tests, all to no avail. They were trying, but to no avail. Some of the leads checked were Teekah Lewis, Rilya Wilson, Brittany Williams, and a host of others.

... The Precious Doe Committee met regularly for prayer for the little girls identity. In December of 2001, Precious was buried for the first time. She would later be exhumed, and her skull would be used for a facial reconstruction through LSU. This doesnt sound like the KC police were sitting on their rumps as some have suggested. But, despite all our know-how, nothing brought a conclusion ---------- until ......

.... Until Alonzo Washington bought an ad in the KC CALL, a minority owned newspaper. The grandfather of Harrell Johnson subscribed to this paper. This man, Thurmond McIntosh of Muskogee, had suspected that one of Michelles children was missing by bits of conversation. Starting in 2004, he made a total of about 50 calls to 1 of the investigators in KC. Due to a speech problem, the investigator dismissed it each time as a prank. But, after he saw the CALL picture, he found one of Michelles hairbrushes, and sent it to Alonzo Washington for a DNA comparison, as well as a picture, marking who he thought was Erica on the photo (this would turn out o be the wrong picture of Erica - remember , he had not seen Erica but briefly in her short life)..Alonzo turned the evidence over to police. Within 48 hours, Michelle and Harrell Johnson, who were in jail in Muskogee, were in jail in KC.

... Calls were going out as early as midnight prior to the 10:00 AM press conference. Signs all over the community shouted it out -- My Name Is Erica Michelle Maria Green. Never mind that Marie was misspelled. It was a time of rejoicing.

... Remember, Betty Brown was not the legal guardian. Whenever she enquired about Erica, Michelle would just give her a big lie about Erica's location. She even fooled the DHS officials in 3 states (what else is new? Ask Rilya Wilson's loved ones --- ). Mrs. Brown is in her 70's now, and could not go all over the Midwest looking for Erica. No Amber Alert, no missing persons report was ever issued. Once, Michelle phoned Mrs. Brown asking for $50. Her reply was "When you bring Erica to see me, I'll give you the $50." "Oh, she's in Illinois with relatives -- ", or something to that effect was her reply.
