BALTIMORE -- As many as 1,000 mourners packed Saint Matthew's Catholic Church in Baltimore to say farewell to 8-year-old Marciana Ringo.
The Northwood Elementary School student was found murdered last week in Harford County, allegedly at the hands of her mother's boyfriend.
She was remembered by many who gathered as a bright, happy child who was a mentor at her school.
Some of the mourners were strangers. Chiffon Wright told WBAL-TV 11 NEWS reporter Rob Roblin that she lost her own child several years ago and that she knew what Marciana's mother was going through.
Northwood school cafeteria worker Rhonda Council told Roblin, "For the couple of weeks that I've known her, it was just like she belonged to me."
The service included an honor guard of corrections officers who have worked alongside Marciana's grandfather.
Ringo was laid to rest at Arbutus Memorial Cemetery.
